Top Level Fitness is fantastic! Great personalized attention. I am a Mom of 2 young children and have not spent much time working out over the past few years. The classes are extremely challenging, however, the trainers do offer modifications to make sure you push yourself at your level. I have had memberships at several different health clubs, worked out with personal trainers and tried many at-home workout dvd’s. I have never had such great results as I have achieved while working out with the trainers at Top Level Fitness. I could go on about the butt-kicking workouts, how the trainers take the time to get to know each client, offer nutrition counseling and guidance, provide a fun atmosphere and hold you accountable for your success. 14 months and counting…I walked through the doors of Top Level Fitness on Day One. Anyone who knows him can only IMAGINE how pumped Zack was on day 1! I guess I should have known then that if I could make it through the first three months of getting trained by them both every morning, I was going to be hooked!

My biggest accomplishment through boot camp in the past year would have to be my consistency and dedication to making exercise and fitness a daily part of my life. I am not a morning person, so just making the initial phone call took a lot of guts on my part! I began this process, as I think many women do, to get back to or at least closer to the body and energy level that I had before I had children. I have not yet achieved my goal. I don’t know if I will, but I will not stop trying. In the process of acquiring “the look” I want staring back at me in the mirror and trying to lose fat and pounds on the scale, I have gained things I was not expecting: healthy cholesterol and blood levels, strength, stamina, friendships with positive, goal-oriented people, and pride knowing that I have finished what I started. So, the interesting part about that last statement is, my mindset has changed. I no longer feel like there is just ONE ultimate goal to reach and then I’m done. Crazy, right? I get asked a couple of times every week, “How long are you going to continue to go to boot camp?” Or, “Are you STILL going?” My new response, which even surprises me, is, “I can’t imagine NOT going.” It’s just what I do now. My body is far from perfect. I have had four children and a husband in the past 12 years, how could it be? However, these days I fit back into the same sized jeans that I have worn for the majority of my life, I’m stronger than I have ever been, and I feel healthy and fit. I can honestly say that I feel like I have changed my own life, I am doing something good for myself, and I am not signed up for a fix. If you show up at 6:30am M-F, you will more than likely become my new workout friend!

The aspect of boot camp that I most enjoy is the energy level of the class and the group dynamic. Every workout is different. Every day I can expect something challenging yet achievable and what gets me through the rough mornings is the people who woke up with me to do the same thing. I have never had a personal trainer, but I have participated in many group exercise classes throughout my lifetime of rollercoaster exercise ambitions. What I think works about Top Level Fitness the personal training you get while in the group exercise atmosphere. It’s the best of both concepts. Like most things in life, you get out of it what you put into it. When I first began, I was lucky that every person in my class was new and starting out together. Nobody had done it before, but we were all still at different fitness levels. It was such a difficult week for me. I had never been so sore before from exercise. In retrospect, this has provided me with so much insight to the person that I am. I now realize that the reason I was so sore was deeper than the fact that I was so out of shape. I was so sore because I pushed myself further than my body was comfortable and I didn’t just go through the motions. It has taken me a year, and possibly writing this, to understand that my own mind might be stopping me from accomplishing so many things. Being part of a group helps me tap into the piece of my personality that drives me to be better and do more. I don’t want those around me to stop because then I want to stop. It’s hard work and human nature tells us to take it easy and do less. Having people around me who are positive and working hard shuts up the voices in my head and gives me the power to focus on what needs to get done.

Through boot camp, I have learned that I am capable of more than I ever thought and that I am stronger, mentally, than I ever gave myself credit for. Nobody is yelling at you during a workout. This is not military training! You are encouraged to keep going and not to stop, but ultimately, you have to put in your own work.

I also feel like I have validated the theory that if there is a will, there is a way. After having a sports injury that prohibits me from excessive high impact exercise like running, I didn’t give up on being healthy. I feel like I have found the thing that I can still do to burn fat and calories and be healthy without injuring myself. There is nothing about boot camp that I feel cannot translate to the rest of my life. It is not just a young person’s workout. It is a workout that can be tailored to all levels of ability and I am proud of myself for not taking the easy road and blaming my foot injury for my fitness woes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all positive! I have also learned all of the exercises that challenge me mentally-the ones that I see on the board in the morning and make me want to turn around and walk back out the door!

Hopefully someone will read this and feel inspired to try to change something in their life; to make themselves a priority and not feel guilty about it. I don’t know a single person who doesn’t talk about how busy they are or how much they struggle to balance their work/home/family schedule. I know how busy everyone feels because I feel it too! I also believe that few commitments in life don’t first begin with some sort of sacrifice or compromise. The things and people in my life that make it so wonderful and busy are also the reasons why I need to make myself a priority because I don’t believe that their lives would be as happy and wonderful if I wasn’t around to share it with them. Today is a gift. There is no time like the present.

Winners will be chosen based on:

  • Best Transformation -Weight Loss, Fat Loss + Inches Lost– % of body weight, % of fat loss and inches lost
  • Fitness Performance – best numbers in the Fitness Test (I’m counting the before and after numbers combined so you can’t cheat on this one :)
